Riigikogu: talks on refugees issue on EU level were successful

BC, Tallinn, 30.06.2015.Print version
The Riigikogu Committee on European Union Affairs in Estonia estimated that the negotiations on the European Agenda on Migration at the European Council meeting were successful, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

The Chairman of the Committee Kalle Palling stated that it was good that European colleagues agreed that Member States ought to contribute to resolving the refugees crisis according to their size and capacity.

“From the point of view of Estonia, it is good that the refugees quota of 1,064, as proposed by the European Commission, was not supported,” he said, adding that nevertheless Estonia will have to make its refugees policy more open and contribute more to easing the immigration pressure by gradually enhancing the country's capacity.

The Parliamentary committee will discuss immigration issues again in a week, when meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs Hanno Pevkur, who will represent Estonia's positions in the JHA Council.
