"25 years ago Lithuania turned towards the path of mutual trust, tolerance and respect of democratic values. I highly appreciate this meaningful initiative to honour those who live in a tolerant environment and can spread kindness around them," said the prime minister during the ceremony held at the Government Office.

At the ceremony Dr Lara Lempertiene was awarded for perpetuation of the Jewish cultural heritage for future generations. Zana Skudoviciene was honoured for long-lasting dedication to the children of the social centre of the Jewish community of Lithuania. Monika Zasytiene received an award for fostering the historical memory and preserving the heritage of ethnic minorities. Jewish song and dance ensemble Fajerlech was awarder for extensive promotion of the Yiddish culture in Lithuania and abroad. Amit Belaite was awarded for active community activities and initiative in rallying the Jewish youth. Jasa Markas Zingeris received an award for actualising the Jewish identity in literature and museum collections.

"I am especially pleased that such awards are becoming a tradition. I am sure that one of the fundamental principles of democracy is tolerance for other nations, individuals or ideas. Tolerance has always been one of the paramount foundations for peaceful coexistence. Today it is particularly important as our neighbours' freedom and democracy are being painfully tested," said Prime Minister Butkevicius.

The award ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Israel Amir Maimon, members of the Government and the Jewish community of Lithuania as well as other guests.
