PM: Lithuania can accept only 30-40 refugees

BC, Vilnius, 28.05.2015.Print version
Lithuania is prepared to accept only 30-40 refugees and not 700 as proposed by the European Commission (EC), says Lithuania Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, cites LETA/ELTA.

According to him, the final decision regarding the relocation of migrants should be made taking into account both the actual possibilities of the EU member-states and the preferences of refugees.

"In April, the Council of the European Union decided to follow the voluntary principle. I believe that this principle will probably be changed. We have not yet discussed the quota figures, which were provided yesterday. I think that today Lithuania, once again, is capable of accepting from 30 to 40 people," said the PM to the radio Ziniu Radijas on Thursday morning.

"If the final decisions are mandatory for all member-states of the EU, then there will be no point in asking something or opposing," he added.
