Corruption Prevention Bureau probes possible conflict of interest on the part of Minister Belevics

BC, Riga, 21.05.2015.Print version
The Corruption Prevention Bureau in Latvia has launched a probe into a possible conflict of interest on the part of Health Minister Guntis Belevics (Greens/Farmers), informs LETA.

Belevics recently issued a disciplinary penalty against the State Medication Agency Director Inguna Adovica over divulging confidential information about several private companies.

Adovica's salary was cut 10% for a period of four months. Portal "pietiek.com" wrote that the case involved the minister's son, Arturs Belevics and his Saules aptieka pharmacies.

The Corruption Prevention Bureau's press officer Laura Dusa confirmed that the probe was on, but declined to comment on the circumstances.

The Health Ministry said yesterday that the disciplinary penalty was issued over the Medications Agency director's failure to observe the regulations on distribution of medications and quality supervision, namely a provision in the regulations that deals with reports submitted by companies operating in the sector.
