Latvian Cabinet to consider supporting some changes in Law on Pensions – at expense of all ministry budgets

BC, Riga, 19.05.2015.Print version
The Cabinet of Ministers in Latvia will finally get around to reviewing the Welfare Ministry's amendments package to the Law on Pensions. One option in funding the changes would mean slashing budgets for all ministries – to push through even a part of the package, informs LETA.

Prime Minister Straujuma told the press yesterday that at today’s Cabinet meeting, the amendments "will be debated in the context of budgetary options."

"The government will decide whether the proposals can be supported, and what will the source for funding them be," the prime minister explained.

She admitted that slashing budgets for all ministries – to push through even a part of the package, is a possibility.
