BC, Tallinn, 11.05.2015.Print version
The Estonian government supported the plan of the Ministry of Social Affairs to postpone the implementation of Work Capacity Reform to 1 July 2016, government communication unit announced LETA.

Postponing the Work Capacity Reform is necessary in order to ensure smooth and firm implementation of the reform that helps people with special needs to find work.

According to Margus Tsahkna, Minister of Social Affairs, this means, in essence, that the services necessary for people with special needs are first developed, and then it is possible to help them enter the labour market.

According to the Prime Minister, the extension of half a year helps in paying closer attention to details and ensuring that everything would actually succeed. “What is important is that people with special needs have the opportunity to enter the labour market and actively take part in society,” said the Prime Minister.

The objective of the Work Capacity Reform is to help people with reduced work capacity to find work or bring them back to the labour market. Today, there are approximately 100,000 people who receive a pension for incapacity for work in Estonia, and about half of them are currently employed.

The Work Capacity Support Act and the related modifications to the Social Welfare Act and the Labour Market Services and Benefits Act were adopted in November 2014.
