Lithuania bans wearing separate elements of military uniform, insignia in public spaces

BC, Vilnius, 23.04.2015.Print version
Lithuania has banned wearing separate elements of military uniforms and insignia in public spaces. The provision was incorporated into amendments to the Law on the Organisation of the National Defence System and Military Service and the accompanying legislation, cites LETA/ELTA.

This way the Lithuanian Parliament aims to protect the public from a threat when people who are not soldiers and have not been issued a certain mandate may be mistaken as such due to separate elements of military uniform being worn.

Violation of this provision will result in a fine varying from EUR 28 to EUR 144.

The explanatory note of the law states that administrative liability is increased seeking to limit opportunities for illegal actions in the times of peace by other countries' soldiers wearing uniforms without insignia.
