Honorary Consul Jeff Alen Nelson is the 24th Honorary Consul of Lithuania in the USA. Secretary of Commerce and Trade of Virginia Maurice Jones, the leader of opposition of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament) Andrius Kubilius and other honorary guests attended the opening ceremony.

Jones said in his welcome address that "Virginia is pursues strong and enduring cooperation with Lithuania and the new Honorary Consulate will provide a unique opportunity for business to boost mutual trade." This interest was clearly illustrated by a great number of local business representatives who participated in the opening ceremony.

Ambassador Pavilionis underlined that the of the new Honorary Consul's experience in international environment was of particular importance, the amount of his work with Lithuania and in Lithuania was impressive, so the new appointment would "bring the state of Virginia even closer to Lithuania."

"A special relationship between the United States of America and Lithuania has an enormous untapped potential. The USA and Lithuania share the same value system and our relationship allows us to promote and expand it," stressed the new Honorary Consul in Virginia.
