"While the situation further deteriorates, there has been no response from the Western countries to the aggression in Debaltsevo. Minsk Agreements continue to be violated – this must have a price," stressed Linkevicius.

The minister called on the US Administration to approve supply of arms to Ukraine. "Each country has an inherent right of self-defence. This is has nothing to do with the escalation of a conflict; on the contrary, the inaction of the West enables a more rapid success of Russia's military scenario. We should not in any way promote such scenario," said the minister.

During the discussion it was agreed that the EU and the US must continue to coordinate their actions both by expressing the support for Ukraine and by agreeing on counter measures – sanctions and isolation. Kupchan shared the plans of the US Administration to respond to Minsk ceasefire agreement violations in Debaltsevo, and informed about further possible steps if these violations and aggression continue.

Minister Linkevicius also met with the experts of the Brookings Institution and discussed the Western response to Russia's aggression and assistance to Ukraine. The experts expressed their interest in minister's assessment of the situation in Ukraine and Russia, the public opinion on the security situation in the region as well as the implementation of NATO decisions taken in Wales. Experts drew attention to the lack of accurate information on the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine and the number of victims.

On 24-26 February, Linkevicius is visiting Washington, DC. On 25 February, the minister is attending the event at the US Congress to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania's independence.
