In 2014, the State Language Center/SLC wrote up citations for insufficient use of the Latvian language while on the job to 423 people in 2014, but this is the smallest total registered in 10 years, informs LETA.

Retail companies numbering 231 were fined for failure to provide a full and precise translated text in the state language on merchandise labeling, enclosed instructions, and other goods-related documentation.

About 7 percent of all infractions that came to the attention of SLC last year – 51 – are lack of state language on signboards, marquees, posters, printed announcements. This compared to 2013's total, which was 93.
