Print versionQuestion: Being a witness within a criminal case I am requested to give a specimen of handwriting. Am I entitled to refuse from giving the handwriting specimen?

Answer: The law does not prescribe
compulsory procedure for obtaining handwriting specimen. According to Section
151 of the Criminal Procedure Law, witness is liable for refusing to testify or
for the conscious provision of false testimony. The law does not prescribe
liability for refusing from giving handwriting specimen.
