Latvian minister invited Lithuanian businessmen to hunt

The dinner and hunt for business figures in the Panevezys district, northern Lithuania, was organized Latvia's Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs, Lithuania's Agriculture Minister Virginija Baltraitiene says in press release today.

 "As far as I know, a few business figures were invited at the initiative of the Latvian minister, and the hunt was organized by one of the businessmen, Pranas Dailide," Baltraitiene cites LETA/BNS.

 

According to the press release, the informal dinner took place in late July in a traditional guesthouse in the Panevezys district, which has held receptions for many presidents, prime ministers and ministers.

 

The Lithuanian minister pledged to turn to the Chief Official Ethics Commission "to dispel any doubts about possible conflict of interests during the Latvian official delegation's visit in Lithuania."

 

Baltraitiene confirmed having attended the dinner and a hunting activity with her husband on July 27 that was held in honor of the Latvian agriculture minister's visit. Other participants at the event included Lithuania's State Food and Veterinary Service chief Jonas Milius, his Latvian counterpart, Maris Balodis, other officials of the two institutions and meat processing company Biovela Group's CEO Virginijus Kantauskas.
