On Friday morning three workers were trapped in grain in an elevator of the grain processing company Tartu Mill in Estonia's second-largest city of Tartu as a result of which two men died, reports LETA/BNS.

Rescuers received a call at 9:28 a.m. on Friday that people had become submerged in grain in a grain bunker of Tartu Mill, spokespeople for the Southern Regional Rescue Center said.

When rescuers from the Tartu and Annelinna teams arrived on the scene they learned that there were three workers trapped in the bunker which held 150 tons of grain. One of the men was attached to the security rope while the other two had already been engulfed by grain.

The man who was attached to the security rope was brought out unharmed at 10:19 a.m. The body of a second worker was recovered shortly after 11 a.m. and later on also the second body was found.

The rescue operation was complicated by poor visibility caused by grain dust.

Tartu Mill offered deepest condolences to the victims' loved ones.

The company also promised to cooperate with the Rescue Board, police and Labor Inspectorate to establish the circumstances of the accident.
