Estonia registers second fastest retail sales growth in EU in October

In October 2014, compared with October 2013, Latvia's retail sales increased 4.7%, which is the eighth fastest growth among all European Union (EU) member states that have provided information, according to latest data collected by Eurostat. Estonia had the second fastest increase, writes LETA.

The highest increase in retail sales in October was registered in Luxembourg – 12.5%, Estonia – 6.9%, and Slovakia – 6.5%.

 

In Lithuania, retail trade turnover increased by 4.8%, the seventh fastest increase.

 

Meanwhile, Malta and Slovenia registered the only reduction in retail trade turnover – by 3.7% and 0.1% respectively.

 

In comparison with October 2013, retail sales turnover in all EU countries grew two% in October 2014, while the eurozone registered a 1.4% increase.

 

Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, retail sales turnover in the eurozone increased by 0.4% in October, and in the EU by 0.7%.

 

The fastest month-on-month increase of retail sales turnover was registered in Finland – by 2.7%, Germany and Great Britain – by 1.9% each, as well as Latvia and Slovakia – by 1.5% each.

 

Meanwhile, the largest retail sales decline was registered in Slovenia – by 1.9%, Portugal – by 1.6%, and Austria – by 1.2%.

 

Latvia saw a month-on-month increase of 0.4% in retail trade sales in October, while Estonia registered a 1% increase.
