EU Commission approves allocating EUR 7.7 mln to Latvian dairy producers

BC, Riga, 28.11.2014.Print version
The European Commission today approved allocating EUR 7.7 million to Latvian dairy producers, European Parliament Member Sandra Kalniete (Unity) wrote in her ''Twitter'' account, cites LETA.

''The European Commission officially published its decision to allocate EUR 7.7 million to Latvian dairy producers. Some more good news – the European Commission will pay out an additional EUR 2.2 million worth of direct payments from its reserve fund,'' Kalniete said.

As reported, the European Commission earlier this month confirmed its intention to adopt a EUR 28 million support package for milk producers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. This new package will be the latest in a series adopted by the European Commission in response to the Russian ban on the importation of certain EU agricultural products, the European Commission announced today.

The amount of support being provided to each of the three countries is EUR 6.9 million for Estonia, EUR 7.7 million for Latvia and EUR 14.1 million for Lithuania.

The support was calculated based on each country's respective 2013/2014 milk production levels within national quotas.
