Saeima in Latvia agreed today to redistribute state budget funds in the amount of EUR 7.9 million in order to provide support to dairy producers who have suffered from Russia's embargo, informs LETA.

These funds are necessary to cover the assessment of productivity data on dairy cows.

According to Saeima's decision, the Agriculture Ministry will receive EUR 3 million from the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry's budget.

The Agriculture Ministry will also receive EUR 4.99 million from the Finance Ministry's budget.

As reported, on August 7 Russia banned import of most food products from the European Union, United States and other Western countries that had adopted sanctions against Moscow. Russia's embargo concerns beef, pork, fruit, vegetables, poultry, fish, cheese, milk and dairy products.
