In Q3, Lithuanian hotels received 7.5% more guests

According to the provisional data of Statistics Lithuania, in III quarter 2014, the accommodation establishments of Lithuania received 836.1 thousand guests, which is by 7.5% more than in the same quarter of 2013.

The number of tourists from the EU countries totalled 274.9 thousand (by 3.9% more than in the same quarter of 2013), from non-EU countries – 197.7 thousand (by 9.7% more). The number of Lithuania's residents accommodated grew by 9.2% and totalled 363.5 thousand.

 

The majority of foreign tourists were from Germany – 77.9 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 72.1 thousand), Russia – 64.8 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 76.8 thousand), Belarus – 54.3 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 43.1 thousand), Poland – 41.3 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 44.8 thousand), Latvia – 33.1 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 27.1 thousand), Estonia – 16.8 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 15.5 thousand), the United  Kingdom – 16.2 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 15.7 thousand), and  Italy – 15.1 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 13.6 thousand). More than half of foreign tourists – 52.6% – stayed in Vilnius.



 

Almost a third (27.8%) of tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of resort towns: Palanga – 107.2 thousand (by 9.1% more than in III quarter 2013), Druskininkai – 76.1 thousand (by 1.6% more), Neringa – 36.8 thousand (by 0.5% less), Birštonas – 12.7 thousand (by 23.8% more).

 

In January–September 2014, accommodation establishments received 1.9 million tourists, or by 9.7% more than in the same period of 2013; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 1.1 million (by 9.5% more).

In III quarter 2014, compared to same quarter of 2013, Lithuanian hotels and motels accommodated by 7.1% more tourists; the number of foreign tourists accommodated increased by 5.1%. The number of rooms in hotels and motels totalled 13.6 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 13.3 thousand), that of beds – 27.9 thousand (in III quarter 2013, 27.2 thousand). The hotel and motel room occupancy rate stood at 59.9% (in III quarter 2013, 60.1%), the bed occupancy rate – 47.8% (in III quarter 2013, 48%).



In III quarter 2014, Vilnius hotels and motels accommodated 263.4 thousand tourists, which is by 4% more than in III quarter 2013; the number of foreign tourists amounted to 225.9 thousand, or by 3.1% more.

 

Over the nine-month period of 2014, hotels and motels received 1.5 million tourists, or by 8.7% more than in the same period of 2013; the number of foreigners amounted to 922.1 thousand (by 8% more).



Concepts

Accommodation establishment refers to a local kind-of-activity unit providing paid short-stay accommodation services and facilities to satisfy overnight accommodation and hygienic needs.

 

Number of tourists accommodated includes Lithuanian residents and foreign visitors with at least one overnight stay in an accommodation establishment.
