Belarus wants to buy Estonian milk

BC, Tallinn, 24.11.2014.Print version
Estonian Agriculture Minister Ivari Padar is on a four-day visit to Belarus, accompanied by a business delegation, to discuss cooperation possibilities, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Padar will meet with Belarus’ Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Trade as well as dairy and fisheries businessmen.

The Embassy of Belarus sent in early November a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, saying that due to the increased demand for dairy products in Russia, Belarus companies would like to buy raw milk from Estonia.

Since 2004, Estonia has not exported raw milk or other dairy products to Belarus. After the visit, the further steps of cooperation will be announced. These depend on interest of businesses and possible contract terms.

In early August, Russia banned the import of Western food products to Russia. Belarus is not subject to the import ban.
