Gustas to Moedas: high technology, engineering form Lithuania's innovation potential

Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas met with European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas and stressed that high technology and engineering industry form research and innovation potential in Lithuania, reports LETA/ELTA.

The meetings addressed 2014-2020 Lithuania's innovation development programme, the significance of innovation on competitiveness and business development, the commercialisation of research and experimental development.

 

Moedas noted the importance of financial instruments in research, experimental development and innovation.

 

The European commissioner welcomed the fact that 2,000 applications were received from Lithuania for the Seventh Framework Programme for Research (FP7) and 150 for Horizon 2020. According to Moedas, adequate innovation is one of the essential factors determining innovation development. Meanwhile, innovation and research in turn are one of fundamental driving forces in modern economy.

 

During the meeting Minister Gustas overviewed programmed and initiatives implemented in Lithuania seeking for systematic innovation development.

 

On Friday Commissioner Moedas will attend the opening ceremony of the Technology Centre and Technological Business Incubator in Kaunas.
