With the beginning of the year 2014, 330 post offices will exchange the litas to the euro free of charge for a period of 60 calendar days. In relation to this process, Lithuania Post will employ 75 employees throughout the country, reports BC post’s press service.

“Lithuania Post is one of four organizations that will exchange the litas to the euro free of charge at the beginning of the next year. We are making every endeavour to make this process smooth and professional; thus all measures are employed for easy and simple access to the new currency.

Starting with January 2, almost fifty percent of post offices will exchange the currency. In some post offices, the currency will be exchanged by the postal staff, and some other post offices will engage mobile teams. We are going to recruit employees precisely for these teams,” Inga Dundulienė, directress of Postal Network Division of Lithuania Post, said.

Lithuania Post will employ 1-2 new employees for a fixed-time work (January 1 – March 1 2015) in every region of Lithuania. The employees will be responsible for smooth currency exchange process, update of records in the information system used for the currency exchange, preparation of reports, and etc.

By the end of the current year, all employees of Lithuania Post will undergo special trainings related to the euro introduction. During the trainings, the employees will be taught to identify the new currency and its security features. Also, they will be instructed on actions to be taken in case counterfeit banknotes are given, what measures are to be taken in order to avoid such situations, and what steps must be made when performing currency exchange.
