The outcome of lengthy negotiations has resulted in Brussels Airlines offering Riga-Brussels-Riga flights six times a week, with new connecting flights from Brussels to resort destinations that the Latvian national airline airBaltic does not offer, as Xavier LaGardin, Brussels Airlines VP for e-commerce matters in Europe, told a press conference today, marking the carrier's first flight from Riga yesterday, October 26, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

LaGardin pointed out that this new service is an excellent opportunity for vacationers.

Transport Ministry Aviation Department Director Arnis Muiznieks also appeared at the press conference, commenting: "Let's not talk about undesirable competition here, but about cooperation, resulting in added value."

Riga International Airport's board chairman, Andis Damlics, also spoke of "healthy competition in any event," pointing to Brussels as a hub for a multitude of further destinations, while Riga, for "Brussels Airlines, can serve as a hub for further travel to many points in, let's say, Scandinavia."
