Intermedix opens service centre in Kaunas

Minister of Economy Evaldas Gustas attended the opening ceremony of the US health care company Intermedix service centre in Kaunas, informs LETA/ELTA. Priomi Minister Algirdas Butkevicius was also present.

According to Gustas it is crucial that a major and well-known international company has chosen Lithuania as the destination to launch is first service centre in Europe.

 

The minister said the fact that a major company like Intermedix has chose to expand in this region shows the great intellectual potential of the city of Kaunas. The minister said that the company found the needed competence in Lithuania and was provided assistance by Lithuanian partners, which helped to make the correct decision.

 

The event was attended by Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, US Ambassador to Lithuania Deborah McCarthy and Mayor of Kaunas Andrius Kupcinskas. Chief Operating Officer of Intermedix Corporation Ken Cook and Director of the service centre in Lithuania Lukas Jankauskas introduced the first activity results.

 

So far LTL 17.5 million (EUR 5 million) has been invested in Kaunas service centre. More than 200 jobs were created and the number may rise to 250 by the end of year. Based on further expansion projections, in two years the number of employees should grow to 500.

 

Algirdas Butkevicius congratulated the United States' company for choosing Lithuania for its expansion in Europe.

 

The prime minister said that when such companies choose to establish an office in Lithuania it provides the country certain benefits. The company will create 200 jobs for highly qualified specialists and bring its vast experience in the international health care market.

 

The prime minister emphasised that Lithuania is a strong competitor in the investment market due to its geographic location, qualified workforce, attention to the co-operation between science and business, as well as the development of innovation.

 

Butkevicius said that Lithuania surpasses other countries of the region not only in the number of foreign capital projects but also in the number of jobs created. In the first half of 2014 the number of implemented investment projects increased by a fourth in Lithuania, while Central and Eastern Europe saw a decrease.

 

The company is planning further expansion and active co-operation with educational institutions in Lithuania.
