Telecommunications company Tele2 improved its EBITDA by 9.2% in the third quarter, reaching almost EUR 9 million, the company's spokeswoman Irena Zeiza informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Tele2 turnover in the third quarter of 2014 was EUR 25.5 million, which is 3.7% less than in the respective period of 2013, when the company's turnover totaled EUR 26.47 million. The fall was due a decrease in roaming and interconnection tariffs stipulated by the European Commission and the Public Utilities Commission.

Tele2 EBITDA reached profitability of 35%, which, according to Zeiza, is the best achievement in Latvia's mobile telecommunications industry of the past two years.

"Tele2 results this year demonstrate a positive mood in regard to the company's financial performance year-on-year. These results will allow us to further fulfill our promises – offer excellent mobile services of highest quality and balanced prices," CEO of Tele2 Valdis Vancovics says.

"We launched a hefty 4G expansion project this past summer in order to make sure that Tele2 clients remain the most satisfied mobile internet users in Latvia. Our aim is to make sure than 90% of residents of Latvia have access to the 4G network already in 2015," Vancovics adds.

The company plans to open up 15 additional client service centers with a new concept, as well as to work on several new projects.

Tele2 is a subsidiary of Sweden-registered Tele2 AB, which is one of the largest telecommunications companies in Europe, providing service to 37.6 million clients in 11 countries. In 2013, the company operated with a EUR 18,518,558 profit, which is 21% more than in 2012.
