Number of train passengers in Estonia grows over 50% in Q3

The Estonian state-owned passenger train operator Elron announced that 1.6 million trips by train were made in the third quarter with Elron's trains, and the number of trips grew by over 50% as compared to the same time last year, LETA/Delfi Ärileht reports.

The number of passengers shows a continued strong growth as compared to last year," said Elron's board chairman Andrus Ossip. "Just like in several previous months, we exceeded a half a million passengers level in September – 567,000 trips were made with our trains.

 

During the whole of this year, already 4.3 million trips have been made with Elron's trains.

 

Elron's ticket fee in the third quarter reached 2.8 million euros, in September it was 0.9 mln euros.

 

The Estonian state-owned Elron, formerly called Elektriraudtee, operates starting this year both electric commuter trains in Tallinn and its vicinity and intercity diesel trains that were formerly operated by Edelaraudtee. Elron has 18 electric trains and 19 diesel trains and makes over 200 trips a day, planning to transport 5.5 mln passengers this year.
