BC, Tallinn, 30.09.2014.Print version
Estonian Ministry of Agriculture predicts Estonia's grain harvest in 2014 at a record 1.2 million tonnes, which is by 22% more than last year, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The average grain yield is 3.7 tonnes per hectare per year, which is also Estonia's best result ever.

According to the forecast, 449,811 tonnes of barley, 339,805 tonnes of winter wheat, 255,897 tonnes of summer wheat, 66,997 tonnes of oats and 48,012 tons of rye was harvested in Estonia in 2014.

As compared to last year, the winter wheat crop is projected to increase 147%, rye 119% and barley 2%. Oat and spring wheat yields fell by 21% and 5% respectively.

The weather was not as favourable for potatoes this year as it was for grain, which is why the potato harvest decreased by 26% compared to last year.

The crop forecast was made on the basis of Statistics Estonian data in the Ministry of Agriculture.
