24 mln tourists have used Estonian accommodation establishments in 10 years

According to Statistics Estonia, a total of 24 million tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments in the years 2004-2013; of these, a third were local, the rest foreign tourists, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

When Estonia joined the European Union in 2004, 1.9 million domestic and foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments of Estonia. Ten years later, in 2013, nearly three million people used the accommodation services, writes Statistics Estonia leading statistician Helga Laurmaa in the statistics blog.

 

Since 1980, the whole world celebrates the International Tourism Day on 27 September. Estonian tourism contributes its share to worldwide tourism: according to the Bank of Estonia, over 6 million people visited Estonia in 2013, of whom 2.9 million stayed in Estonia for more than one day.

 

Statistics show that two-thirds of tourists, who visit Estonia and stay overnight here, use the services of accommodation establishments.
