Latvijas piens begins exporting cheese to Sweden

BC, Riga, 22.09.2014.Print version
Jelgava dairy company Latvijas piens has begun exporting cheese to Sweden after signing cooperation agreements with Swedish supermarket chains Hypermatt and Netto., informs LETA.

During the next two months, cooperation agreements will be also signed with Axfood and COOP, the company's CEO Anita Skudra informed the business portal "Nozare.lv".

She indicated that signing the agreements with Swedish supermarket chains is the first major achievement of Latvian dairy producers in the Scandinavian market, which can be described as conservative, therefore the new products will first have to pass quality and value tests before landing on shelves.

Latvijas piens will be represented in the Scandinavian market by the company's cheese products "Edamer", "Gouda", and "Snowballs".

The company will try to fully utilize the new export market opportunities by increasing cheese sales in Scandinavia. In mid-September, the first several tons of cheese were already shipped to Hypermatt and Netto. During the next few months, the demand could reach 40-50 tons a month, Skudra indicates.

As reported, 63.83% of Latvijas piens shares currently belong to the dairy cooperative "Trikata KS", 25% – to "Dzese", 11.17% – to the new investor, grain cooperative "Latraps", which joined Latvijas piens this past July investing EUR 1 million in the company.
