Lithuania launches modern research vessel in Baltic Sea

On 15 September, a new modern research vessel will be launched in the Baltic Sea. The scientists from Klaipeda University will use the vessel for exploration of all sea components, such as currents, physicochemical properties of seawater, biological objects, seabed, informs LETA/ELTA.

The ship Mintis (Lith. "thought") will be used both for scientific purposes and to satisfy the needs of various maritime activities: to monitor the marine environment, explore fish resources, respond to pollution incidents, monitor the pollution in the area of buried chemical warfare and others.

 

She will also contribute to major infrastructure projects planned in the maritime sector and help to achieve the European Union's aims in maritime policy.

 

Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science Dainius Pavalkis will take part in the ship launching ceremony.
