Estonian state-owned port operator Tallinna Sadam (Port of Tallinn) announced that the ports it manages serviced 1,071,898 passengers in the month of August 2014, which is 4.2% more than last year and the highest August result ever, informs LETA.

"This summer shows that Tallinn is still a popular travel destination. In August, Tallink serviced 51%, Viking Line 24%, Eckerö Line 12% and St Peterline 2% of the passengers; cruise passengers formed 11%.

In the eight months of 2014, the AS Tallinna Sadam has serviced a total of 6.76 million passengers, which is, as compared to the same period last year, a nearly 5.4% increase. The bulk or 82% were Tallinn-Helsinki route passengers, a total of 5.52 million. 10% travelled on the Tallinn-Stockholm route, 689,299 passengers and 99,417 passengers used the St. Petersburg route, which accounted for 1%.

From the beginning of the year, more than 440,000 cruise tourists visited the ports, which accounts for 7% of the total number of passengers.

In eight months, passenger ships visited the ports 3,332 times, 281 of those were cruise ship visits.
