More than 40 leaders of Latvian food production companies participated in a meeting with Uzbekistani business owners yesterday. Although, specific cooperation agreements could be signed in November 2014 after the scheduled exhibition for food industry in Almaty, the Latvian Agricultural Consulting and Education Center spokeswoman Iveta Tomsone informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

"There were dairy producers, fish processors, bread bakers, vegetable cultivators, cattle exporters, as well as representatives from large logistics companies and organic fertilizer companies. The Uzbekistani businessmen were especially interested in our dairy products – we discussed the direction of the company Latvijas piens (Latvian Milk) and cooperative Musmaju darzeni (Domestic Vegetables). There was general interest in supply of any type of food products, which is an indication that Uzbekistan favors Latvian products," Tomsone said.

Meanwhile, the head of the Uzbekistani delegation, Mirzohid Yuldashev, admitted that it is too early to discuss any specific agreements at the moment, however, the situation could change thanks to the large interest in Latvian export products.

"We are pleased about the large interest of Latvian producers. We will remain in Latvia until September 4. Until then, our delegation plans to participate in several other business meetings. We are not discussing any specific agreements at the moment, however, today's meeting was very productive. We urge Latvian companies to participate in the International Exhibition for Food Industry in Almaty on October 29 and October 30, during which they will be able to establish beneficial contacts with other participants," Yuldashev said.
