Latvian dairy producers will have access to Chinese market already this fall, thus, dairy companies will have a chance to export their production to a country that has a rapidly growing food market, representatives of the Agriculture Ministry informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens and Farmers' Union) promises that the registration process of Latvian companies for their product export to China will begin in the near future.

"Chinese certification institution specialists will arrive in Latvia already this September to check specific Latvian dairy companies and their suitability for the Chinese market. Latvia is going to be the first Baltic country to acquire a certificate for export to China," Duklavs said.

It is said that Latvian dairy producers could participate in an international food exhibition in Beijing this November to acquire new export markets.

The Agriculture Ministry and Food and Veterinary Service experts began discussions with China in 2013. They met with Chinese institutions responsible for issuing export certificates, to discuss cooperation. During the meeting, both countries agreed that the Chinese experts will visit Latvian meat and dairy factories to draw conclusions.

As reported, on June 16, Duklavs and the Chinese Minister of State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Zhi Shuping signed protocols between the Ministry of Agriculture and Chinese Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, on quarantine and veterinary requirements for mutton and beef exported from Latvia to China.
