In January-July, cargo turnover in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports increased by 4.3%

UST-LUGA PORT is the priority project related with cargo handling capacity development of Russian ports in the Baltic Sea region. Within the period of the seven months of the current year the turnover of this port went up even by +24,8% or by +8 508,0 thou. tn to 42 779,6 thou. tn comparing with January-July of 2013.

 

The handling turnover of crude oil, oil products and coal constituting even 95,3% of the overall cargo handling volumes in the port increased rapidly: 14 642,4 thou. tn of oil products ( the yoy change was +79,0% or +6 461,3 thou. tn) were transhipped and 10 714,0  thou. tn of coal ( the yoy change was +7,9% or +780,7 thou. tn) were handled in January – July of 2014. The handling volumes of crude oil were nearly the same as in January – July of 2013 – 13 248,6 thou. tn were transhipped (the yoy change was +0,3% or +40,1 thou. tn).

 

 

Other types of cargo that made the significant impact on the overall increase of the port turnover were Ro-Ro cargoes – 988,3 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +19,3% or +160,0 thou. tn), the new cargo – LNG – 665,2 thou. tn were transhipped and other not specified cargoes – 1 601,5 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +37,7% or +438,5 thou. tn).

 

In January – July of 2014 the SEAPORT of SAINT – PETERSBURG handled 35 583,8  thou. tn of cargo; i.e., more by  +8,7% or by +2 843,4 thou. tn than within the corresponding period of 2013.

 

13 960,8 thou. tn of containerised cargoes constituting even 39,2% of the overall turnover of the port were handled within the analysed period (the yoy change was +3,3% or +451,1 thou. tn). The handling turnover of oil products constituting 22,6% of the overall turnover of the port marked the increase in January – July of 2014 8 040,7 thou. tn were transhiped (the yoy change was +8,5% or +627,5 thou. tn).

 

The handling rates of other types of cargo making the most significant impact on the overall turnover of the port also saw an increase: in the group of bulk cargo the throughput of fertilizers (the yoy change was +36,6% or +1 147,0 thou. tn to 4 284,8 thou. tn) marked the most significant  increase and in the group of general cargo the throughput of metal (3 551,5 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was +4,1% or +140,9 thou. tn) and scrap metal  ( the yoy change was +124,4% or +793,5 thou. tn to 1 431,6 thou. tn) increased.

 

PRIMORSK PORT is the centre of export of Russian crude oil and oil products. Altogether 33 121,4 thou. tn of products, i.e. less by – 12,9% or by –4 885,4 thou. tn comparing with the correspondent period of the previous year were transhiped in January – July of 2014. Throughout the analysed period 26 461,6 thou. tn of crude oil 9the yoy change was –19,0% or less by 6 222,7 thou. tn) and 6 659,8  thou. tn of oil products (the yoy change was +25,1% or more by +1 337,3 thou. tn) were transhiped in the port.

 

The overall turnover in the PORT of VYSOTSK within the analysed period was 10 478,1 thou. tn, the yoy change was +9,5% or +906,4 thou. tn. This seaport handles basically two types of cargo – oil products and coal. Oil products cut out the biggest share in the overall turnover of the port (71%).  In January – July of the current year 6 7 402,2 thou. tn of oil products were transhiped (the yoy change was +8,9% or +607,5 thou. tn). The throughput of coal handling achieved a significant rise in January – July of the current year by +10,8% or +298,9 thou. tn to 3 075,9 thou. tn.

 

The overall cargo turnover in the PORT OF KALININGRAD was 7 899,4 thou. tn, i.e. less by –3,7% or by –303,4 thou. tn than in January – July of 2013. The most abundant cargo types handled in this port are grain (19,3% of the overall turnover of the port ) and oil products (16,8% of the overall turnover of the port): respectively 1 527,2 thou. tn (the yoy change was +407,4% or + 1 226,2 thou. tn) and 1 324,2 thou. tn (the yoy change was –45,9% or –1 125,5 thou. tn) were handled.

 

The turnover of consumer goods marked the increase in January – July of 2014 in the port of Kaliningrad: 915,8 thou. tn of Ro-Ro cargoes (the yoy change was +47,8% or +296,3 thou. tn) and 788,8 thou. tn (the yoy change as +8,1% or +59,2 thou. tn) of containerised were transported via the port of Kaliningrad.

 

In terms of units the turnover of containerised cargoes increased even by +15,4% – 212 130 TEU were handled (the yoy change was +28 293 TEU).

 

Metal handling that marked the significant growth by the end of 2013 contracted even by –31,1% or by -284,8 thou. tn to 630,8 thou. tn in January – July of 2014.


The aggregate throughput of Klaipeda Port and at Butingės terminal in January – July of 2014 totalled 24,5 mln tn of seaborne cargo: 3,9 mln tn were handled at Butinges Terminal (the year-on-year change was –26,2% or –1 385,7 thou. tn) and 20,6 mln tn were handled in Klaipeda Seaport (the year-on-year change was +3,1% or +622,6 mln tn).


The turnover of Klaipeda seaport in July of 2014 increased by 4,8%, totally 2 814,1 thou. tn, i.e. more by 128,6 thou. tn comparing with July of 2013 were handled. Such result was achieved due to increased handling rates of fertilizers, containerised and Ro-Ro cargoes: 1 086,7 thou. tn (the yoy change was +64,5% or +425,9 thou. tn), 424,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was +2,7% or +11,3 thou. tn) and 391,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was +5,7% or +21,0 thou. tn) were respectively handled.

 

The increase of Klaipeda seaport cargo handling throughput was achieved due to the handling results of the most abundant cargo of the seaport – fertilizers (bulk, liquid and packed) with the turnover reaching 7 182,7 thou. tn (the change was +33,04% or 1 783,9 thou. tn. comparing January – July of 2013). 

 

The turnover of containerised cargoes also saw an increase, 3 201,5 thou. tn were handled (the change was +21,2% or 562,2 thou. tn more than in January – July of 2013).

 

In January – July of 2014 the turnover of dry and bulk cargo constituting 46% of the overall cargo turnover of Klaipeda seaport increased rather rapidly: totally 9 527,0 thou. tn, i.e. more by +21,4% or by +1 680,0 thou. tn than in January – July of 2013 were handled. This result was achieved basically due to increased even by 41,4% throughput of bulk natural and chemical fertilizers – 6 100,9 thou. tn were transhiped (the yoy change was +1 787,2 thou. tn). The handling of ores also marked the rapid increase in January- July of 2014: 750,8 thou. tn were handled ( the yoy change was +84,7% or +344,2 thou. tn). The handling rates of other categories of cargo making impact on the throughput in this cargo group dropped down: 1 169,9 thou. tn of agriculture products ( the yoy change was –12,1% or –160,9 thou. tn) and –844,1 thou. tn of raw and processed minerals, construction materials (the yoy change was –30,2%. or –365,7 thou. tn) were handled.


The turnover of liquid cargo cutting out 22% of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport dropped down rather significantly in January – July of 2014 comparing with the corresponding period of the last year : totally 3 697,24 425,6 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was –25,6% or –1 523,9 thou. tn).

 

Significantly contracted transhipment of oil products and liquid fertilizers made the greatest impact on the decreased handling rates of liquid cargo: 3 392,4 thou. tn of oil products (the yoy change was –29,9% or –1 445,8 thou. tn) and 787,3 thou. tn of liquid fertilizers  (the yoy change was –7,9% or –67,9 thou. tn) were transhipped during the analysed period.

 

In January – July of 2014 the throughput of general cargoes constituting 32% of the overall cargo turnover of the seaport increased by +7,6% or by +466,6 thou. tn to 6 618,3 thou. tn.  The throughput of packed fertilizers attributed to this cargo group increased even by +28,1%: totally 294,5  thou. tn were handled( the yoy change was  +64,6 thou. tn). In line the significant rise of containerised cargo volumes was recorded.

 

Within the analysed period: totally 3 210,5 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +21,2% or +562,2 thou. tn). Meanwhile transportation of Ro-Ro cargoes (2 587,0 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was –4,1% or –110,6 thou. tn) and the handling volumes of  timber and forest products (250,0 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was –15,6% or –46,3 thou. tn) attributed to this cargo group and making impact of the overall turnover of the seaport significantly dropped down.

 

Altogether 3 846 vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butingės terminal in January – July of 2014. 39 vessels moored at Butingės terminal and Klaipeda Seaport received 3 807 vessels (less by –0,3% or by –10 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of 2013 ). 

 

The number of passengers within the analysed period was 200 976 passengers, i.e. less by –18,5% or by  -31 371 passenger comparing with January – July of 2013.

 

Cruise shipping. 41 cruise liner moored in Klaipeda seaport in January- July of 2014, i.e. more by +83,3% or by +13 cruise ships than in January – July of 2013. Consequently the number of cruise passengers increased: 37 729 passengers arrived to the seaport (more by +76,6% or by +16 360 passengers)

 

The total throughput in the JOINT PORT of TALLINN in January – July of 2014 achieved 17 374,5  thou. tn, the change was +0,9% or +157,6 thou. tn year-on-year. The handling rates of the most abundant cargo – oil products constituting the basic share in the overall cargo handling turnover in this port – even 70% – remained nearly the same as in 2013 : totally 12 030,3 thou. tn were transhiped (the yoy change was –0,2% or –20,2 thou. tn.).

 

In general cargo group the turnover of containerised cargoes – 1 169,7 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +15,2% or +154,4 thou. tn) and Ro-Ro cargoes constituting 13,3% of the overall port throughput – 2 305,2 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +8,9% or +187,7 thou. tn) marked the significant increase. In terms of units the turnover of containerised cargoes increased as well – 154 527 TEU were handled (the yoy change was +3,1% or  +4 584 TEU).

 

In the group of dry and bulk cargo the handling rates of fertilizers dropped down924,2 thou. tn were transhipped (the yoy change was –9,8% or –100,3 thou. tn).

 

Passenger traffic. In January – July of 2014 the Joint Port of Tallinn rendered services to 5 686,1 thou. passengers, i.e. more by  +5,7% or by +307,6 thou. passengers than during the corresponding period of 2013.

 

Vessels. 4 043 vessels were reported to call the Port of Tallinn, i.e. less by –37 vessels or by –0,9% comparing with January –July of 2013.

 

In January – July of 2014 the rapid growth of cargo handling turnover – even by +15,8% – was achieved in  RIGA SEAPORT – totally 23 464,4 thou. tn were handled ( the yoy change was  +3 194,1 thou. tn). Such a significant growth was achieved due to increased by +38% handling volumes of oil products  – 6 161,3 thou. tn were transhiped (the change was +1 697,6 thou. tn yoy). This growth was determined by investments to new tanks of oil products and other infrastructure objects in line with capital dredging of the seaport (the port renders services to tankers with the draught up to 14,7 metres) – these changes allowed oil companies to attract new clients to the seaport of Riga.

 

The handling rates of the most abundant cargo – coal, cutting out 36,1% in the overall turnover of the port, increased as well – 8 479,6 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +8,6% or +672,0 thou. tn).

 

In the group of bulk and dry cargo the most rapid growth was recorded in the handling of fertilizers – 1 411,1 thou. tn were transhiped (the yoy change was +46,3% or +446,5 thou. tn). Such handling rates were achieved due to the new Ryga fertilizer terminal that has been put into operation.

 

In the group of general cargoes the turnover of containerised cargoes marked the increase, 2 316,5 thou. tn were handled (the yoy change was +3,8% or +85,2 thou. tn). The handling rates of timber and forest products constituting 7,4% of the overall throughput of the port has continued to drop down consistently: 1 741,7 thou. tn were handled ( the yoy change was –9,8% or –188,4 thou. tn).

 

Passenger traffic. The Freeport of Riga received 506,6  thou. passengers in January – July of 2014 (the yoy change was +2,2% or +10 972 thou. passengers) including 43 220 passenger of cruise liners.

 

In January – July of 2014 the cargo handling turnover in the SEAPORT OF VENTSPILS dropped down by -6,4% or by –1 180,0 thou. tn to 17 374,0 thou. tn comparing with the correspondent period of 2013. The most abundant cargo of the port are oil products (57,0pct. of the overall port cargo handling) and coal (24,4pct. of the overall port cargo handling). In January – July of the current year the turnover of oil products was nearly the same as in 2013 –  9 901,0 thou. tn of oil products were transhiped (the yoy change was –3,7% or –379,0 thou. tn). The handling rates of coal dramatically dropped down to 4 247,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was –14,4% or –712,0 thou. tn).

 

The turnover of fertilizers making impact on the overall turnover of the port increased to 1 234,0 thou. tn (the yoy change was +73,6% or +523,0 thou. tn).

 

Passenger traffic. In January – July of the current year 43 415 thou. passengers called the port of Ventspils, the change was +23,1% or more by +8 155 passengers comparing with January – July of 2013.

 

Vessels. In total the port rendered services to 818 vessels, the yoy change was +3,0%, or more by +22  vessels.

 

The total throughput in the PORT of LIEPAJA in January – July of 2014  reached 2 977,2 thou. tn, (the yoy change was +7,2% or +200,3  thou. tn).  Grain cargo cuts out the largest share of handling volumes of this port (48,3%). In January – July of 2014 the grain handling turnover increased significantly comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year – 1 437,3 thou. tn were transhiped, the yoy change was +58,9% or +532,7 thou. tn).

 

The handling rates of liquid cargo remained the same in January – July of 2014 – altogether the transhipment volumes of oil products, crude oil and liquid chemical cargoes totalled 246,9 thou. tn (the yoy change was –3,1% or –7,8 thou. tn).

 

Rather significant drop down in the handling turnover of general cargoes was recorded – 769,9 thou. tn were handled within the analysed period (the yoy change was –29,2% or –317,3 thou. tn). This contraction was determined basically by the decreased even by –92,4% or by –238,7 thou. tn metal handling rates.

 

Passenger traffic.  The number of passengers calling the Port of Liepaja was 24 630 passengers, the yoy change was –3,0% or less by –889 passengers.

 

Vessels. In January – July of the current year 818 vessels called the port, the change was +3,0% or more by 22 vessels comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.
