Norway's Orkla – the new owner of NP Foods and its companies Laima, Gutta, Staburadze, Staburadzes konditoreja and Margiris, plans to increase turnover by 6% annually, as well as expand export volumes to Western Europe and Asia, focusing on Laima as the leading brand, informs LETA.

CEO of Orkla Christer Aberg spoke to the business portal Nozare.lv about the acquisition.

Asked how the EUR 2 million investment will be distributed, Aberg said that it will go to all NP Foods Group companies, nevertheless, greatest attention will be paid to Laima.

"We chose to acquire NP Foods for the reason that Laima is one of the strongest confectionery brands in the Baltic region, as well as in Russia and CIS countries. It is an icon, furthermore, it controls more than 30% of the market shares. We plan to increase Laima's influence in the Baltic region using its strong name. The remaining brands – "Selga", "Staburadze", "Gutta", "Everest" and "Pedro" – will allow us to increase our presence in the cookie, cake, juice, water and bread product market," Aberg said.

He also indicated that so far all the Group's companies that operate in the Baltic region, have achieved a 6% increase of turnover annually.

"We plan to achieve a 6% increase of turnover by selling interesting products to local and foreign markets," Aberg said.

He also said that Latvia's business environment is beneficial for the company.

"We have invested more than EUR 35 million into Latvian companies, but the majority of investments will go to NP Foods. All these companies, of course, have sturdy leadership, which will remain unchanged," Aberg added.
