Lithuanian Maritime Safety Administration installs traffic monitoring system
"Crucially important maritime safety project, completed a few days ago, represents one more step towards high standards. The new system will help monitor more effectively the Lithuanian part of the Baltic Sea as well as will lead to a closer cooperation with the EU, Norway and Iceland's maritime administrations," says Tomas Karpavičius, the Chancellor of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
In addition, NVTMIS will be useful for ship agents, search and rescue centres, coast guards, environmental protection centres, writes en.delfi.lt.
Due to this information system, the maritime traffic safety will improve. Additionally, it will allow to the responsible agencies to respond to maritime incidents, accidents or potentially dangerous maritime situations, search and rescue operations promptly. It will help increase the maritime pollution prevention and reduce its impact on the environment.
Every Lithuanian citizen can use the NVTMIS system by logging into http://maps.msa.lt and confirming the identity in Electronic Government Portal at http://www.epaslaugos.lt.
