In the second quarter of 2014, mobile phone operator Latvijas Mobilais telefons (LMT) recorded a 13.5% increase in EBIDTA (earnings before interest, depreciation, taxes and amortization), while the company's turnover grew 4.4%, LMT's spokeswoman Elina Lidere informed the business portal Nozare.lv, cites LETA.

The number of LMT clients at the end of the second quarter 2014 was 1,091,051, while the company's turnover has reached EUR 42.4 million. LMT's EBIDTA rose 13.6% from the second quarter of 2013, reaching EUR 13.5 million.

"The results indicate that we are doing the right things at the right time. We have achieved good balance between prices and services in order to invest in the development of new opportunities and services that we can now offer our clients. Being the first ones to introduce 4G in Latvia, we have significantly changed users' mobile internet experience. Thus, not only the number of LMT internet users is growing, so is data usage, which currently makes up almost one-third of the company's income," LMT President Juris Binde indicated.

The total amount of bandwidth in LMT's network has grown more than 2.5 times as compared to 2013. By introducing 4G internet service for homes and offices, the amount of bandwidth for computers alone has grown almost three times, Lidere said.

49% of LMT's shares belong to Scandinavian group TeliaSonera, 23% – Lattelecom, 23% – Latvijas Valsts radio un televizijas centrs, 5% – the Republic of Latvia. The company was founded in 1992.
