Latvian ports' cargo turnover grew by 6.6% in H1

Latvian ports' cargo turnover increased 6.6% to a total of 39.38 million in the first half of the year from the same period in 2013, as the Transport Ministry's Transit Policy Department told the Nozare.lv business portal, cites LETA.

In the first six months of 2013, Latvian ports' cargo turnover amounted to 36.9 million tons.

 

During the first six months of the year, the Riga Port handled 20.17 million tons of cargo – 15.9% up from the first six months of 2013. Ventspils' cargo turnover reached 15.7 million tons, a 3.8% increase, and Liepaja Port handled 2.67 million tons of cargo – 7.3% more than in the same period last year.

 

Bulk cargo accounted for the largest part of Latvian ports' turnover – 18.5 million tons, followed by liquid cargo – 15 million tons, and general cargo – 6 million tons.

 

General cargo handling volumes remained the same, but the ports handled 6.5% more bulk cargo and 9.4% more liquid cargo in the first six months of the year.
