Valio Estonia and Võru Juust (Võru Cheese) that merged in December 2013 ended last year with a total turnover of more than 90 million euros, earning total profits of 1.7 million euros, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

The combined turnover was by 5.7% higher than in the turnover generated in 2012.

Managing Director of Valio Estonia Maido Solovjov said that last year’s financial results, in the context of developments on the dairy products market, were solid ones, although expectations had been higher.

“In 2013, the dairy market was hit by a surge in the prices of raw milk by nearly 20% instead of the usual summer season raw milk price decline,” he explained, noted that their enterprise had to adjust its profits outlook accordingly.

Exports accounted for a third of Valio’s turnover, and cheese maintained its position as the most remarkable category in it, despite Russia temporarily halting cheese exports. “Cheese exports accounted for more than a half of Valio’s exports, as we managed to replace Russia with new target markets of cheese exports,” said Solovjov.
