In order to promote tourism in Latvia, the Economy Ministry has made available EUR 20 million in EU funding for the 2014-2020 financial planning period, the Economy Ministry said yesterday, cites LETA/Nozare.lv.

Additional funding will be made available to straighten out tourism infrastructure, the development of cultural and nature tourism products, as well as other activities.

Economy Minister Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis (Reform Party) said that Latvia's tourism industry has seen rapid growth the past several years, which any person can see by just taking a stroll through Old Town and seeing the many groups of tourists. He added that, unfortunately, tourist groups and individuals usually only visit Latvia during the summer season.

''Thus, one of our main tasks will be to lessen this seasonal trait. Our changeable weather conditions dictate the necessity to diversify our tourism offer, so that we could attract tourists all year round,'' said.
