Latvia records EU's highest increase in retail trade turnover April

Retail trade turnover in Latvia in April 2014 was 10.5% higher than in April 2013, Latvia recording the steepest increase in retail trade turnover among all European Union member states for which data are available, according to the latest report by the European Union's statistical office Eurostat, cites LETA.

Estonia registered the second highest year-on-year increase in retail trade turnover – 9.4%, followed by Great Britain – 8.4%, and Lithuania – 8%.

 

Portugal is the only EU member state to record a decrease in retail trade turnover, 0.4% down from April 2013.

 

The EU's retail trade turnover increased 3.4% year-on-year, whereas the eurozone registered an increase of 2.4%.

 

Compared to this past March, retail trade turnover in the euro area rose 0.4% and in the EU 0.6%.

 

Again, Latvia registered the highest increase of 2.5%, followed by Great Britain – 2.1%, and Estonia, France and Slovenia – 1.4% each.

 

The largest decreases were recorded in Romania – 3.2%, Malta – 2.6%, and Germany and Portugal – 0.7% each.

 

Retail trade turnover in Lithuania increased 0.6% from March.
