During the ceremony, 15 finalists were awarded. Joining the commemoration of the 300th birthday anniversary of Lithuanian literature father Kristijonas Donelaitis, the participants of the event read his works.

"The participants of the National Dictation Contest defend our language and feel every letter in their hearts. The Lithuanian language is the foundation of our freedom and statehood, therefore, let us cherish and protect it," said the president.

According to the president, today Lithuania celebrates the 110th anniversary of resumption of free press. It is a victory of book smugglers, teachers, common people and intellectuals.

Grybauskaite awarded winners of three categories: adults, school students and foreign Lithuanians, and congratulated students of 3 most active classes.

In 2014, over 7,000 people participated in the National Dictation Contest, it is twice more than a year ago.
