Although 21^st century has been the time of fastest changes in the entire history of mankind, development in many sectors is in its beginning point and the great changes are expected to happen in the nearest years both in the world and Latvia. Certainly the way we obtain, spend and refer to energy will significantly change – besides the traditional sectors of energetics, different still alternative energy obtaining ways will get even more significance.

Although more than a half of inhabitants in Latvia currently use smart phones, the possibilities that in the nearest five years will be opened by theses mobile calculation devices, was unimaginable some years ago. It is clear that by increase of average age of inhabitants also Latvia has to think now on the ways how to involve all the people in the labour market and how to provide valuable old ages for everyone.

The future hides not only great opportunities, but also risks, because those, who are ready to listen, learn, and respectively act will be among the winners in the future world.

Eriks Igaunis (Ēriks Igaunis), the president of World Trends Forum: “The life changes very fast. Therefore I, in order not to lose the competition ability, as the company manager periodically have to make the corrections of the development strategy, - stop for a while and I am already shrink. A strategy of any country, municipality, company, person activity requires improvements. In order to do them, you have to have good knowledge of current development tendencies that is also the objective of the expectable Forum.”

The results of the first forum day give conviction that Riga may be the platform for negotiations between East and West. The environment that is created for mutual communication of representatives from both of the regions is favourable in order to settle the economic and social issues that are in general significant to society and states. Yesterday 3 sessions took place within the forum, where the insight in the future development perspectives, issues of energy was given as well as there were considered the topics about sustainable city development and intellectual property and business in digital environment.

In total almost 450 people as well as 60 representatives of media – both Latvian and foreign – are registered for participation in Forum.
