Lithuanian Railways' transnational project Viking wins new award

Container train Viking has won an award for Best Practice in Green Logistics and Co-Modality. In Paris on 11 April, 2014, the EU project's BESTFACT Award will be collected by Stasys Gudvalis, Director of the Freight Transportation Directorate at Lithuanian Railways, informs LETA/ELTA.

The combined transport train Viking is a project of Lithuanian, Belarus, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Moldavian railways, connecting the Baltic Sea with the Black Sea. Viking carries universal and specialized containers. The entire route of the Viking train from Lithuania to Ukraine (total 1734 km) may be covered within 52 hours.

 

In 2008, PROMIT European Coordination Action initiated by the European Commission, recognized Viking as an example of Best Practice. In 2009, European Intermodal Association (EIA) awarded project as Best Practice in the Field of Intermodal Transport.

 

BESTFACT is a project funded by the European Commission. It includes 18 partners composed of European research institutes, universities, international associations and industry partners from 13 countries.

 

The objective of this project is to create, disseminate and enhance the utilization of best practices, experiences and innovations in freight logistics that contribute to European transport policy objectives.
