Latvijas Balzams will export a gold-filtered sparkling beverage

BC, Riga, 08.04.2014.Print version
Continuing development of innovative products, Latvijas Balzams has launched a new brand – sparkling alcoholic beverage "Cosmopolitan Diva", which is pro-duced using the unique technology of gold-filtration for the first time. In total 22 thousand euros were invested in the development of the new product, consumers’ research and creation of website.

The new "Cosmopolitan Diva" alcoholic beverage has been created specifically for the export market and meets the latest beverage consumption tendencies in Europe and world-wide. Interest in it has been shown by the clients in Russia, Israel, and Poland.

The company informs that gold-filtration of sparkling beverages using gold threads is an innovative method which has so far been used mainly in the production of strong alcoholic beverages. „Although we cannot claim to be the only ones in the world who use this method in the production of light alcoholic beverages, Latvijas Balzams is a pioneer in this sector,” informed BC Dana Hasana, corporate communication manager.

The Company representative tells that a range of innovations are already being used in the production, including filtration of beverages through charcoal ionised with silver, use of Himalaya water and the method of deep-freezing during the filtration in the production of vodka. „Gold-filtration of light alcoholic beverages is a new step for us, and, according to the technologists of Latvijas Balzams, it give the finished product a more subtle and intense taste. It is not easy to surprise the customer these days. Therefore, innovations helping to improve the taste of the beverage or make it special are a contemporary trend in the development of beverage production”, emphasises the company.

"Cosmopolitan Diva" is also the first Latvian alcoholic beverage with voluntarily introduced warnings on the label regarding the risks associated with alcohol in pregnant women and drivers. The Corporate Communication Manager Dana Hasana informs that this is a new responsible labelling initiative in Latvia which has not been used until now because it is not yet required by the European or Latvian legislation.

„Working in a sector which requires additional attention in the communication with the consumer, we have made this step ourselves and are the first in Latvia to use the additional warnings on the product label. They address drivers and expectant mothers regarding prohibition of alcohol consumption as well as provide additional information regarding responsible and considerate use of alcoholic beverages via referral to the Internet resource available at www.responsibledrinking.eu. Being export-oriented, we have opted for this Pan-European website which contains links to various national responsible alcohol consumption websites,” tells D. Hasana.

She also specifies that educational effort via warning signs on labels is a step towards the development of commensurate and socially responsible attitudes with regard to alcohol turnover, and this is why Latvijas Balzams, as a market leader, has taken up this initiative. These signs will be gradually introduced in the labels of the other products of the company.

The sparkling beverage Diva Cosmolitan is a true representation of the moods of spring – frivolous, playful, lively, fruit-flavoured, light, and with low alcohol content (7%). Targeting the export clientele, the cosmopolitandiva.com website has been created for more information about this innovative product.

The exports turnover of JSC Latvijas Balzams increased by 2.8% last year. The largest sales increase has been reached in such essential markets as Russia (+5.5%), Latvian duty-free zone (+18.2%), and Ukraine (+38.3%). The key direct export directions in 2013 have been the Baltic States, Russia, Germany, and Scandinavia, and new markets, such as China, have been acquired in parallel. The company is also among the top 25 Latvian exporters and has received The Red Jackets title.
