Baltic States register increased in retail trade turnover in February

Retail trade turnover in Latvia increased by 2% in February 2014, compared to February 2013, the sixth smallest increase in all European Union countries for which data are available, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat. Both Lithuania and Estonia registered 4.3% increases in retail trade turnover in February, informs LETA.

Similar to Latvia, Germany also saw a two% year-on-year increase in retail trade turnover in February.

 

The steepest year-on-year increases were recorded in Luxembourg – 12.8%, Bulgaria – 9.2%, Romania – 8.7%, and Hungary – 6.7%.

 

Year-on-year reductions were registered only in Malta – 1.4%, Slovenia and Finland – one%, as well as Spain – 0.4%.

 

In comparison with February 2013, retail trade turnover in the EU increased 1.5% in February 2014, the euro area saw a 0.8% increase.

 

Compared to January, retail trade turnover grew 0.5% in the EU and 0.4% in the euro area in February 2014.

 

The steepest month-on-month increases were observed in Malta – 1.9%, Denmark, Romania and Great Britain – 1.4% each, and Germany – 1.3%.

 

Month-on-month reductions were recorded in Estonia – 3.4%, Poland – 1.5%, as well as Slovenia and Finland – 1.4% each.

 

Compared to January, retail trade turnover in Latvia increased 0.1%, but Lithuania saw a 0.5% in February.
