Bentley Systems to invest in training of engineers in Lithuania

BC, Vilnius, 10.03.2014.Print version
Corporation Bentley Systems, the global leader in engineering design systems, will install state-of-the-art software and engineering technology for training of engineers at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), reports LETA/ELTA.

This will provide an opportunity for students to learn to work with modern systems and pursue a career in modern companies around the world, government organization Invest Lithuania announced.

The business and science cooperation measures are defined in the first strategic partnership of such a scale signed between UAB IN RE, the authorised representative of Bentley Systems in the Baltic region, and the Lithuanian institution of higher education. The agreement also stipulates an upgrade of the main engineering study programmes – architecture, environmental, construction, road and rail, industrial, and electronic engineering, etc. – at VGTU. Innovative information technology will be applied throughout the entire study process in carrying out professional training assignments, scientific and consulting activities, research, expert examinations and projects.

VGTU will use the academic CAMPUS-Wide licence of Bentley Systems, which will allow it to install the professional software for managing design and production in various areas in 500 University computers and 500 PCs of students and lecturers. As a result, all university lecturers and students will have free access to the academic Bentley 2D/3D CAD graphic platform MicroStation PowerDraft version.

"Cooperation between science and business today is particularly important for training highly qualified professionals. This partnership will help to implement advanced information technology at the University and to develop the application of modern engineering design systems in the training process. It will strengthen the university's leadership in technological sciences and ensure greater prospects for young people in the Lithuanian and foreign labour market", VGTU Rector Alfonsas Daniunas said.

Corporation Bentley Systems has a system development and technical support division in Lithuania that has cooperated with the country's universities for a number of years, but in the past it has mainly focused on practical training and recruitment of IT specialists.

The current agreement extends cooperation between VGTU and the world-class corporation Bentley System, which agrees to transfer the best professional practice gained in implementing exclusive infrastructure projects to the university and therefore to include VGTU into the network of academic institutions participating in the corporation's projects, and to support the participation of students of all academic levels in the regular international Scott Lofgren Student Design Competition.

"Competences acquired by graduates will provide them with greater career prospects", Arunas Urbsys, sales and marketing director at UAB IN RE, said. He further added, "Bentley supports professionals in a variety of areas, helps the most effective application of information technology not only in professional activities, but also during studies. This provides a career opportunity for those who have dedicated their life to the engineering professions that improve and change our environment."
