In January-May, cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports grew by 2.3%

In January-May 2013, the overall cargo handling in the Baltic Eastern Coast Seaports totalled 119 143 265.7 thou. tn; the year-on-year change is +2,3% or +3 257.5 thou. tn, reports BC Klaipeda port’s press service.

In PRIMORSK PORT 28 658,2 thou. tn of oil and oil products, i.e. less by –12,0% or by –3 895,8 thou. tn than in January – May of 2012 were handled. Primorsk Port handles exclusively oil and oil products. Throughout the analysed period 25 076,6 thou. tn of crude oil; the change was –17,0% or less by –5 179,41 thou. tn yoy and 3 581,7 thou. tn of oil products; the change was +56,0% or +1 283,0 thou. tn yoy, were handled in the Port.

 

In the SEAPORT of SAINT – PETERSBURG 22 090,8 thou. tn of cargo were handled in January- May of 2013; the change was-2,0% or less by –394,4 thou. tn than during the corresponding period of 2012. Containerised cargoes constitute 43,4% of the total cargo handling (9 577,5 thou. tn were handled;  yoy change was –2,0% or –149,1 thou. tn).

 

The handling turnover of Ro-Ro cargoes ( +42,0% yoy or +131,11 thou tn. yoy), fertilizers (2 026,9 thou. tn were handled; the change was +7% or +137,9 thou. tn yoy) and oil products (4 211,5 thou. tn were handled; the change was +5% or +197,5 yoy) marked the increase in January-May of 2013.

 

UST-LUGA PORT totally handled 23 829,3 thou. tn of cargo; the year-on-year change was +55,0% or +8 503,1 thou. tn. Such a rapid growth in cargo handling turnover was determined by the increased handling rates of cargoes that cut out the largest share of the overall turnover of this Port: crude oil (9 499,1 thou. tn were handled; yoy change was +239,0%  or +6 698,1 thou. tn), the coal handling increased by +63,0% or by +250,2 thou. tn to 648,6  thou. tn,  oil products ( 5 347,4 thou. tn were handled;  the yoy change was +8,0% or +378,2 thou. tn) and metal  (269,3 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was –49,0%  or –258,2 thou tn).  

 

The overall turnover in the PORT of VYSOTSK within the analysed period was 6 630,4 thou. tn; the year-on-year change was +28,0% or +1 459,8 thou. tn.  This port handles mainly two categories of cargo. Oil products constitute the largest share in the overall turnover of the Port, i.e., 70,4%  Throughout the analysed period 4 668,4  thou. tn of oil products were handled in the Port, i.e. the handling rates increased by +13,0% or by +547,7 thou. tn year-on-year. Volumes of coal handling were 1 962,0 thou. tn; the change was +87,0% or +912,1 thou. tn year-on-year.


The total throughput of Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal within the period of January – May 2013 totalled 18,3 mln. tn of seaborne cargo, the change of cargo handling turnover was +9,2% if to compare with the corresponding period of 2012.  The cargo handling turnover in Klaipėda Port within the analysed period reached 14,6 mln. tn, the year-on-year change was  +4,6% or +0,6 mln.  tn, meanwhile 3,6 mln. tn of cargo were handled at  Butingės terminal, the year-on-year change being +31,6% or +0,8 mln. tn. 

 

Comparing with the corresponding period of 2012 the most significant growth of cargo handling volumes in January – May of 2013 was reached due to increased handling rates of liquid cargoes (the growth reached 16,9% comparing with the corresponding period of 2012), the highest rates of cargo handling were recorded in the handling turnover of crude oil  ( +31,6% or +1 193,8 thou. tn yoy),  natural and chemical fertilizers (+29,2% or +153,2 thou. tn yoy) and oil products  (+4,7% +166,7 thou. tn yoy).

 

In terms of other cargo groups the handling volumes of dry and bulk cargo marked the  increase in Klaipeda Seaport by 9,8% yoy to 5 755,2 thou. tn. The significant growth of handling rates of cargoes attributed to this cargo group has been recorded in handling of agriculture products (+113,4% or +603,7 thou. tn yoy), raw sugar (+60,6% or +91,2 thou. tn), raw and processed minerals and construction materials ( +24,1% or +153,7 thou. tn yoy), and iron, steel products and metal constructions (-36,6% or –45,1 thou. tn yoy). The handling turnover of containerised cargoes in terms of TEU increased in January – May of 2013 and reached 162 869 TEU (+7,1% or +10 799 TEU yoy). 

 

2 709 vessels were reported to call Klaipėda Port and Būtingės terminal in January – May of 2013. 37 vessels (+32,1% or more by 9 vessels yoy) moored at Būtingės terminal. Klaipėda Seaport received 2 672 vessels (less by 5,1% yoy) including:

 

The number of passengers within the analysed period was 118 177, i.e. more by 0,8% or by 937 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of the previous year.

 

The total throughput in the PORT of TALLINN in January – May of the current year was 12 594,9 thou. tn; the change was –8,9% or 1 234,4  thou. tn year-on-year. Oil products (8 934,0 thou. tn were handled; the year-on-year change was –1,0% or –88,7 thou. tn),  Ro-Ro cargoes (1 503,0 thou. tn were handled; the year-on-year change was –9,1% ), containerized cargoes (724,1 thou. tn were handled; the year-on-year change was +1,6% or +11,3 thou. tn) and fertilizers (720,0 thou. tn were handled; the year-on-year change was –20,9% or –189,7 thou. tn) constitute the basic share of overall cargo flow in the Port of Tallinn.

 

Passenger traffic. This year the Joint Port of Tallinn rendered services to 3 238,2 thou. passengers; the change was +3,8% year-on-year, or +118,7 thou. passengers.

 

Vessels. 2 825 vessels were reported to call the Port of Tallinn, i.e. less by 65 vessels or by 2,2% comparing with the corresponding period of 2012. The Port rendered services to 847 cargo ships ( the yoy change was –3,8% or less by 33 ships)  and to 1 978 passenger ships; the yoy change was –1,6% or less by 32 ships.

 

The aggregate throughput of RIGA PORT totalled 14 336,9 thou. tn; the change was8,8% year– on – year or -1 381,7 thou. tn. In January-May of 2013. Coal (5 542,8 thou. tn were handled, the yoy change was –14,4% or –1 203,8 thou. tn)  and oil products (3 361,8 thou. tn were handled, the change was –10,9% or –400,7 thou tn) cut out the largest share in the overall handling volumes in this Port.

In January – May of 2013 the handling turnover of fertilizers (+32,0% or +163,0 thou. tn yoy) and containers (+3,4% or +51,0 thou. tn yoy) marked the increase. 

 

Passenger traffic. The Freeport of Riga received 287 593 passengers; the year-on-year change was +1,5% or +4199 passengers. The number of cruise passengers was 16 379 passengers; the yoy change was +9,5% or +1 427 passengers.

 

The cargo handling turnover in the SEAPORT OF VENTSPILS dropped down by –3,4% or by –505,0 thou. tn. year-on-year which altogether totalled 14 259,0 thou. tn. The dominating cargo categories in the Seaport of Ventspils were as follows:  oil products that amounted to 7 846,0 thou. tn in January – May of 2013 (the year-on-year change dropping down to –2,8% or –222,0 thou. tn) and coal that amounted to 3 716,0 thou. tn with year –on year change –5,5% or –218,01 thou. tn.

 

The highest increase was recorded in ammonia handling turnover – 211,0 thou. tn were handled, the year-on-year change was +37,9% or +58, 0 thou. tn. In January- May of 2013 the handling rates of fertilizers dropped rather significantly (593,0 thou. tn were handled; the yoy change was –274,0 thou. tn or –31,6%).

 

Passenger traffic. 20 043 was the number of passengers calling the Port of Ventspils in January-May of 2013; the year-on-year change was –697 passengers or –3,4%

 

Vessels. In total the Port rendered services to 769 vessel; the year-on-year change was +0,3 pct, or +2 vessels.

 

The total throughput in the PORT of LIEPAJA reached 2 077,4 thou. tn; the year-on-year change was28,9% or –845,8 thou. tn. Grain handling cut out the largest share of handling volumes of this port. In January – May of 2013 the Port handled 648,0 thou. tn of grain; the year-on-year change was  –43,8% or –505,0 thou. tn. The highest increase of handling turnover was recorded in peat  (20,0 thou. tn were handled; the year-on-year change was +354,5 thou. tn or +15,6%) and crude oil (65,7 thou. tn were handled: the year-on-year change was +73,4% or +27,8 thou. tn ) handling volumes. The handling turnover of oil products marked the decrease by –32,4% or 36,6 thou. tn yoy to 76,3 thou. tn.  

 

Passenger traffic.  The number of passengers calling the Port of Liepaja was 8 894 passengers; the year-on-year change was +52,0%  or +3 055 passengers.

 

Vessels. In total the Port rendered services to 591 vessel, i.e. less by 158 vessels or by 21,0%  if to compare with the corresponding period of the previous year.
