The China Daily website about Latvia has been visited by more than 9 million people, informs LETA/Nozare.lv the Latvian Tourism Development Agency.

Latvian Tourism Development Agency Director Armands Slokenbergs believes that the large number of website visitors proves the huge potential and importance of the Chinese market.

Statistics show that 80 percent visitors were Chinese residents from such cities as Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.

Foreign visitors were mostly interested in Cesis Castle and Rundale Palace, the Aerodium vertical wind tunnel, the Riga Central Market, confectionery Laima and interviews with Saeima Speaker Solvita Aboltina, Latvian Ambassador to China Ingrida Levrence, Latvian National Opera Managing Director Andrejs Zagars, Latvia-China Business Council Board Chairman Artis Kampars.

Approximately ten percent of visitors were interested in Latvia's business and investment opportunities, business environment and tax policy, as well as several companies – Latvijas Finieris, the Freeport of Riga, Rietumu banka and others.

As reported, China Daily is one of the largest Chinese newspapers. The newspaper created its website about Latvia in August 2012.

To become familiar with Latvia and create an interesting website for the Chinese audience, five China Daily reporters visited Latvia in the middle of June. They interviewed several high-ranking officials, including Saeima Speaker Solvita Aboltina (Unity) and Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ojars Eriks Kalnins (Unity), met with the heads of Latvijas Finieris and Laima, visited the Freeport of Riga, Rietumu banka, the School of Business Administration "Turiba" and the Confucius Center at the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital.
