Latvia registers EU's highest industrial production output increase in December

Industrial production output in Latvia increased by 10.7% in December 2012 as compared to December 2011, which was the highest increase in the European Union, according to a report released by the EU statistical office Eurostat. Malta registered the second highest increase in industrial production output in December – 10.3%, followed by Lithuania – 9.1%, and Estonia – 6.7%, writes LETA.

The largest decreases in industrial production output were registered in Spain (6.9%), Italy (6.6%) and the Czech Republic (5.8%).

 

In the EU member states for which the data are available, industrial production output in December fell 2.3%, including 2.4% in the euro area.

 

Industrial production output increased in eight member states and decreased in fifteen.

 

Compared to November 2012, industrial production output in both the EU reduced by 0.5%, and the eurozone fell by 0.7%. 14 EU member states recorded increases and six decreases in their industrial production output. Monthly output remained the same in Spain, France and Romania.

 

The steepest month-on-month increase was registered in Ireland (8.5%), as well as in Latvia and Slovenia (2.7%).

 

The largest reduction were registered in Slovakia (4.4%), and Denmark (2.3%).

 

In Lithuania, industrial production output in December 2012 increased 0.2% from November, but in Estonia it reduced by 1%.
