Port of Tallinn to build a new quay for cruise ships

BC, Tallinn, 13.02.2013.Print version
The Port of Tallinn announced a public procurement for constructing a new cruise ship quay at the Old Port, in order to be able to receive larger cruise vessels, writes LETA/Äripäev.ee.

The plan is to complete the quay of 421 metres by the beginning of the cruise season of 2014. This new quay will make it possible to receive vessels that are up to 340 metres long and 42 metres wide, with the draught of up to nine metres.

“An investment into the new cruise ship quay is necessary, on one hand, due to growing demand for Tallinn as a cruise destination, and on the other hand, due to travel operators’ interest in using increasingly large cruise vessels,” said the head of the marketing and communications department of the Port of Tallinn Sirle Arro.

The Port of Tallinn predicts that the number of cruise passengers visiting Tallinn will reach 500,000 in 2014. Last year, Tallinn was visited by 440,000 cruise passengers on 294 vessels.
