Tallink will bring a larger ship on Tallinn-Helsinki route

AS Tallink Grupp announced that it will bring cruise ferry Silja Europa, which is the biggest passenger ship in its class, to Tallinn-Helsinki route from the 23rd of January while the cruise ferry Baltic Princess will be directed to Turku-Stockholm route from the 1st of February 2013, the company reported.

“Bringing Europa to the Tallinn-Helsinki route is another exciting step in our continued promise of offering excellence to our cruise customers. Although certainly modern, Baltic Princess has a distinct charm and personality that will make sailing in the archipelago an unforgettable cruise experience”, said Peter Roose, Management Board Member of the Group.

 

The company expects that the change of vessels should bring along a positive economic development in regards to the cost efficiency on both routes and give new energy to the Turku-Stockholm route. On Turku-Stockholm route the change delivers the advantage of even quality and identity for the route as being operated by two new sister vessels Galaxy and Baltic Princess. Silja Europa is a suitable vessel to serve the further increasing demand on Tallinn-Helsinki route, writes LETA.

 

The environmental side of the change is very important as well, as by changing the vessels diminishes the fuel consumption and therefore also the harmful impact to the environment.

 

Baltic Princess is built by the shipyard STX Europe in Finland in 2008. She is 212 meters long and 29 meters wide. Her maximum speed is 24.5 knots and she has the highest possible ice class of 1A Super. The 12-deck high ship accommodates altogether 2800 passengers and 1130 lane meters of vehicles.

 

Silja Europa is built in 1993 in Germany. She is worlds one of the largest ships by the number of cabins with the length of 202 meters, width of 33 meters and passenger capacity of 3123 people. She has the highest ice class of 1A Super and her maximum speed is 21.5 knots. Her car deck accommodates 932 lane meters of vehicles and cargo.

 

Currently, AS Tallink Grupp operates on Tallinn-Helsinki routes with 2 new generation high speed vessels Star and Superstar and one cruise ferry Baltic Princess. Turku-Stockholm route is currently operated by cruise ferries Galaxy and Silja Europa. AS Tallink Grupp has more than 9 million passengers annually.
